10 Steps To Painting Made Easy

Whether you're buying a home or getting you home ready to sell, a fresh coat of paint can make a world of difference. Though most people dread the idea of having to paint a room let alone the entire house, it's a lot more cost effective than outsourcing the job. Here are the 10 steps you'll need in order to get through it successfully.

1. Removing all furniture. It's obviously much easier to paint an empty room than a room with furniture in it, but if emptying the room isn't an option you'll want to move all the furniture to the center of the room, or at least 4 feet away from walls, then covering them with plastic is the best way to go. A sheet can work, but some paint may run through it.

2. Gather your supplies. Proper preparation prevents poor performance! Or least prevents the frustration of having to leave the room and interrupt the flow of work. Supplies you'll need: good quality paint, brushes, rollers, paint pan with throw away liner to avoid having to clean up, spackle and a spackle brush, painters tape, drop cloth, ladder, a duster brush for baseboards and window sills, gloves and a screwdriver to remove and switch blades in the room.

3. Cover you floors. Use a drop cloth to cover several feet away from the wall to avoid and drips landing on floor or carpet.

4. Mask and tape baseboards and around doors/windows

5. Spackle and remove switch blades.

6. Apply your first coat of paint, making sure it a thin coat to allow for quick drying. Pro tip: turn the heat up to aid with quick drying.

7. Do you cut ins around baseboards and corners.

8. Apply your second coat.

9. remove masking tape BEFORE the second coat dries.

10. Clean up! Furniture can be set up the same day or allow to dry over night.

You want some bonus tips? Ok.

Have some music on to sustain you through what can get to feel like a mundane and never ending task quickly. And have water and light snacks available for fuel!

Happy painting.
