The frenzy of the summer season is over with fewer “for sale” signs on the block and homes on the market. But don’t think that means you need to wait til next year to find the home of your dreams!
While it’s not known as the high season for residential real estate, home sellers are often more serious during this time of year as they may be moving due a sudden change, such as relocation.
For buyers, this means you have less competition and more say in the negotiation. If you’re thinking of purchasing a home soon, here are three reasons why thefall seasonmay be the most favorable time of year for buyers!
1. Sellers Are Often More Eager and Flexible
In the fall, you’re more likely to encounter sellers who are ready to sell their property quickly and willing to be flexible. Sure, there are fewer homes on the market, but the ones available are often priced to sell.
Homes on the market during the “off season” are not necessarily cast-offs from the summer.
While there may certainly be some that didn’t find a buyer during the high season, there are also new listings on the market, especially if you know how to look.
By working with anexperienced real estate firm, you can find some hidden gems ready for move-in. Far from being cast offs, homes that went up for sale in the past but weren’t sold likely have sellers who are willing to accept a lower price or alternate terms to finally make the sale!

Happily, there’s less competition from other buyers during the fall season. This factor certainly makes “house shopping” more pleasant, but it may also be better for your bank account.
Serious sellers will be more receptive to working with buyers, on everything from the offer to the move-in date.
Don’t be afraid to negotiate; this goes beyond putting in a lower bid. Stack the deck in your favor by offering something different (like maybe moving in before or after the holidays!)
